Scrolling is the act of vertically moving content on a touchscreen or via mouse. However, the real breakthrough was the invention ofInfinite Scroll (Infinite Scrolling). Before this, the web had pages (you clicked “Page 2”, “Next”). This created a natural stopping point, a pause where the brain could decide: “Do I continue or stop?”. Infinite Scroll removes these “Stopping Cues“ (stopping signals). The contentautomatically reloads before you reach the bottom, creating anendless and uninterrupted flow.
Scrolling is a state of semi-consciousness where the motor action (the moving finger) is disconnected from volitional intent.
It is a “gray area” of existence: you are not resting (the brain isoverstimulated), but you are not acting either (you are passive). It is atime that is neither remembered nor lived; it is simplyeroded.
